Canada Express Entry: More CRS Points Awarded For French-Speaking Immigrants
Express Entry draw is one of the popular point-based systems that provide a pathway for foreign skilled work professionals to immigrate to Canada
For every two weeks, Canada holds an Express Entry draw inviting the candidates to apply for a permanent residence visa. The recent draw was on October 14th, the day marked the biggest express entry draw ever in the history of Canadian immigration.
However, Express Entry draw that is pre-scheduled this week has been stopped and the reason is not pandemic. The reason is the update of the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), that is expected to take up to two weeks.
Generally, IRCC awards candidates a CRS score based on their age, education, language proficiency, work experience, etc
The government of Canada has now added more CRS points to French-speaking applicants. The new change is attracting more French-speaking skilled workers. It is to be noted that French is one of the official languages of Canada along with English.
As per the new policy, up to 25 CRS points being awarded to candidates who are skillful in the french language.
French-speaking applicants will be awarded 25 additional CRS points, compared to 15 earlier, while. Bilingual candidates (speaking both English and French) will now get 50 points, compared to the earlier CRS 30 points rule.
IRCC is now updating the CRS scores of the respective candidates in the Express Entry pool.
Within two weeks, the respective up-gradation work will be finished, once it is complete, Express Entry draws begins as per the schedule.
Between 2003 and 2019, 60,000 and over French-speaking immigrants arrived in Canada, more than 8000 immigrants came in 2019 alone.
The Canadian government is spending $40.8 million over five years to support the consolidation of a Francophone integration pathway and horizontal policy development.
It is worth mentioning that a few days back Canada announced the three-year (2021-2023) Immigration Levels Plan, set a massive immigration target for next three years from 2021-2023, keen to welcome over 400,000 immigrants every year.
